Characteristics

This traditional parkland tract is one of the most popular courses in the Emerald Isle – and rightly so. It was co-designed by well known Irish Golf Professional Christy O’Connor Jnr and Peter McEvoy, former Walker Cup Captain, in 1993. It was redesigned in 1998/99 by Jeff Howes Golf Design creating an absolute gem. Since 1995, Fota Island has hosted a number of top tournaments, most notably the Irish Open in 2001 & 2002 and the Irish Seniors Open in 2006. There’s not a weak hole on the course and it ends with a magnificent par 5, where the green is protected on three sides by water!

FOTA’S NEW ADDITIONS An exciting new 9 hole course has recently been completed alongside the existing championship course. The new course features a world class layout with some very challenging features to test the most competitive golfer.

A new Academy at Fota Island boasts 4000 sq. meters of first class turf to practice clean crisp iron shots with a separate chipping green surrounded with bunkers. There is also a new gently undulating outdoor putting green and as the short game is so important a new pitching area with various targets up to 100 meters away. Lessons can be booked for individuals or groups.
